Chinese language & expression · Chinese and essay writing in Taiwan · Mandarin, Zhuyin and reading overseas

Read with understanding. Say it clearly. Put it into writing.

For students in Taiwan, lessons cover Chinese, reading and essay writing. For children overseas, we can start with Zhuyin, reading and spoken expression. The starting point depends on the child’s current skills.

This may fit your child if…

  • Does not know how to start an essay or writes a lot without a clear point.
  • Struggles with longer passages or classical Chinese.
  • Lives overseas and needs support with Chinese listening, speaking, reading or writing, including preparation for returning to Taiwan.

What we look for

An essay without a clear scene
Having ideas but writing them as a list of events.
Classical Chinese feels inaccessible
Recognising individual characters but losing the meaning of the passage.
Similar Zhuyin sounds
Confusing sounds such as ㄣ and ㄥ when listening or reading.
Ideas that are hard to express
Knowing what to say but getting stuck when speaking or writing it down.

What a lesson involves

  1. Each lesson is 50 minutes, one-to-one on Google Meet, taught in Chinese.
  2. Props, stories and film-style storyboards make a topic easier to picture.
  3. Your child talks through an idea before shaping it into a paragraph.
  4. Lessons mainly use Traditional characters and Zhuyin. Children with a Simplified-character or Pinyin background can discuss a transition.

Choose the starting point together.
