Frequently asked questions
Questions parents ask
The practical details, from your first enquiry to lessons and homework support.
This page translates the current Chinese FAQ. You are welcome to raise other questions in the consultation.
Consultations and booking
Is the consultation free? Does it include a lesson?
The consultation is free and lasts about 20 minutes. It does not include lesson content. We discuss your child’s situation and needs, then confirm the level, plan and possible times. Booking a consultation does not enrol your child in lessons.
What if no available time works for us?
Email your needs and two or three suitable times, including your time zone. We reply within one working day.
How far ahead should we book?
Request at least 24 hours in advance. While the Google Calendar booking page is being set up, suggest two or three suitable times by email and include your time zone. The teacher will confirm an available time by reply. We leave a 10-minute buffer between appointments.
When is a booking confirmed?
A booking is confirmed by the booking tool’s formal confirmation or the teacher’s email confirming the time. It includes the date, time zone and Google Meet link. Clicking a button on this site or sending an email alone does not confirm a booking.
Programmes and levels
Which grades and subjects do you teach?
Three programmes: primary maths; junior-high maths and science, including physics and chemistry; and Chinese language and expression. Chinese covers school Chinese and writing for Taiwan students, and Mandarin, Zhuyin and reading for overseas students. Max 老師 is currently the sole teacher.
How do the three learning levels differ?
Foundations revisits concepts where the child is stuck. Keeping pace follows the school’s textbook edition for preparation and review. Advanced challenge explores extension problems and strategies. Published prices are for foundations; other levels and special requirements are quoted after the free consultation.
Fees and arrangements
How are lesson fees calculated?
Each lesson lasts 50 minutes. Foundation plans in Taiwan: Single lesson NT$1,200; 4-lesson monthly plan NT$4,500; 16-lesson term plan NT$16,800, with materials included. Monthly and term plans include XYLEX homework diagnosis and a monthly learning report; the term plan also includes midterm and final exam review planning. Keeping pace, advanced challenge and special requirements are quoted after the consultation. Overseas foundation plans are priced in US dollars: Single lesson US$40; 4-lesson monthly plan US$150; 16-lesson term plan US$560.
What if we cannot attend a lesson?
Notify us at least 24 hours before the lesson to reschedule free of charge. A cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice, or an absence, counts as one lesson. If the teacher cancels, a replacement lesson is arranged. Unused lessons in a plan are refunded proportionally.
Which materials are used? Do they cost extra?
Taiwan students use their school’s textbook edition plus teacher-created handouts. Overseas students use teacher-created handouts. Materials are included in lesson fees.
Equipment
What equipment do we need?
A computer or tablet, a headset, and a phone that can photograph homework for upload to XYLEX. Lessons use Google Meet. For younger primary students, we recommend a parent helps with setup at the first lesson.
Overseas families
Can families overseas join? What are the fees?
Yes. We serve Chinese-speaking families worldwide with Taiwan-curriculum bridging and Chinese language learning. Overseas foundation plans are in US dollars: Single lesson US$40; 4-lesson monthly plan US$150; 16-lesson term plan US$560. Keeping pace, advanced challenge and special requirements are quoted after the consultation. We do not teach IB, AP, GCSE, SAT or other international exam programmes.
How do you handle time differences?
Tell us your city or time zone when you book. The confirmation shows both your local time and Taiwan time. Please check date changes and daylight saving.
Which language is used in lessons?
Lessons are taught in Chinese. Parents can communicate with the teacher in Chinese or English. Overseas students mainly use Traditional characters and Zhuyin; we can also work with a Simplified-character or Pinyin background.
XYLEX
Does AI replace the teacher?
No. XYLEX’s AI only suggests a step where the child may be stuck. The teacher confirms, corrects or rejects it. AI can make mistakes; the teacher makes the final decision.
Do parents need to buy XYLEX separately?
No. Monthly and term plans include XYLEX homework diagnosis. The child photographs and uploads homework; the teacher confirms the learning difficulty and plans the next step. Current availability and eligibility for individual features: 【TBC: XYLEX feature, subject and eligibility scope】.
