Elementary maths · Grades 1–6

Understand the problem before choosing a calculation.

Your child can calculate, but a word problem stops them. We ask them to explain the question in their own words, then use drawings and examples to work out what to do next.

This may fit your child if…

  • Can calculate but struggles to understand word problems.
  • Knows a method but gets stuck when a question is phrased differently.
  • Needs firmer foundations in fractions, decimals, ratios or geometry before junior high.

What we look for

Choosing operations by keywords
Seeing ‘altogether’ and immediately adding, without checking what the question means.
Missing the last step
Getting the calculation right but leaving out a unit or the answer sentence.
Mixing up fraction rules
Remembering rules for denominators, multiplication and division, but not what each step does.
Relying on shape formulas
Recognising a familiar diagram but losing the connection when it is rotated.

What a lesson involves

  1. Each lesson is 50 minutes, one-to-one on Google Meet, taught in Chinese.
  2. Your child explains the question first. We draw, compare examples and choose an operation together.
  3. Stories and everyday examples make abstract ideas easier to discuss.
  4. In monthly and term plans, homework photos help the teacher identify what to revisit next.

Choose the starting point together.

Foundations

Revisit the missing idea, such as the meaning of multiplication or the size of a fraction, before moving on.

Keeping pace with school

Follow the school’s textbook and prepare or review the current topics.

Further challenge

Explore extension problems, compare methods and practise explaining a solution to someone else.

A closer look at the teaching

Selected earlier teaching and classroom videos, in Chinese. They illustrate activities and explanations; the current service is online one-to-one tutoring.

Fees and getting started

For families in Taiwan, foundations plans are: Single lesson NT$1,200; 4-lesson monthly plan NT$4,500; 16-lesson term plan NT$16,800. Materials are included. Other levels and special needs are quoted after the free consultation.

Families overseas use US-dollar plans. Compare the full plan details.

Common questions

Can younger children learn online?

Yes. For younger primary-school children, a parent should join the first lesson to help with the computer or tablet, headset and homework photos.

Do you teach shortcuts?

Understanding comes first. A shortcut is useful when your child can explain why it works, including when the question changes.

Does the consultation commit us to lessons?

No. The consultation is free, lasts about 20 minutes and helps us understand the child’s needs. It is not a subject lesson or an enrolment.
